Abstract

Currently, in our country there exist a number of railway lines that provide only the local service frequently with huge difference between transport demand and transport offer. This difference is reflected in the economic balance of the lines, respectively of the service there, and the result is thus an essential input for assessing the effectiveness of the rail system as a whole. This article is a partial outcome of the research project, which aims to analyze the current status and potential of the regional railway network in our country from several points of view and to propose steps to optimize its range. It presents the characteristics of that segment of Czech railway network from the perspective of a simplified economic balance.
