IMPACT OF BRAKE INSPECTIONS ON TRAFFIC SAFETY
Keywords:

Road safety is a very complicated matter that involves many aspects (technical condition of vehicles, the state of roads, health and mental condition of the drivers, etc.). As the statistics show, the situation in the world and as well as in Czech Republic, is highly unacceptable with high numbers of accidents, injuries and fatalities. One of the important active safety features include the length of braking distance and this is not measured by the regular auto inspections; only the symmetry braking and the minimum value of slowing down is checked. As a result, drivers don't learn their stopping distance. The paper lists the possible uses of dynamic method of measurements, modeling and information potential of the sensors to estimate the safe vehicle braking distances. This can potentially reduce more than 30% of road traffic accidents and increase the road safety. Modern sensing and computing technologies can enable a rapid evaluation of safe distance and speed on a vehicle's dashboard.
